With summertime peeking around the corner, the Found Animals team is abuzz with fun outdoor activities to put on the agenda for the months ahead. Being pet lovers, we’re always looking for ways to get our blood pumping with our pooches in the great outdoors. Thankfully, in Southern California, there is no shortage of incredible hikes and walking trails to hit with our furry friends!
In this five part series, we encourage you to get outside and explore with your best friend as we count down our top 5 Los Angeles dog hikes.
Last week, we featured #5 Runyon Canyon. This week’s hike is:
#4 Solstice Canyon
Located in the Santa Monica Mountains, this is a stunning hike to enjoy with your dogs on a clear day. This hike will take you through beautiful scenery, including a waterfall in Solstice Canyon Creek, and a small collection of rocky pools to splash through! One of the most unusual stops on the hike is the Roberts Ranch House, an interesting brick home that now lies in ruins from a wildfire in 1982. The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area preserves the remaining structures, which offer a one-of-a-kind backdrop in the woods. I spy an Instagram photo opp with your pup!
The main trail is about 3 miles round trip and of moderate difficulty. Parking is free but can go quickly, so arrive early.
To get there:
Take Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu and go about 2.5 miles west of Malibu Canyon Road. Turn inland onto Corral Canyon Road, and the park will be on your left.
