With summertime peeking around the corner, the Found Animals team is abuzz with fun outdoor activities to put on the agenda for the months ahead. Being pet lovers, we’re always looking for ways to get our blood pumping with our pooches in the great outdoors. Thankfully, in Southern California, there is no shortage of incredible hikes and walking trails to hit with our furry friends!
In this five part series, we encourage you to get outside and explore with your best friend as we count down our top 5 Los Angeles dog hikes.
Last week, we featured #3 Temescal Canyon. This week’s hike is:
#2 Silver Lake Reservoir Loop
The East Side is quickly becoming a dog-lovers’ neighborhood with many pet-friendly offerings around Silver Lake, Los Feliz and beyond. One of our favorite places to bring dogs is the Silver Lake Reservoir. “The Loop” goes around the entire Reservoir, and offers stunning views of the 100-acre reservoir, as well as fantastic “house-watching”, with many of the surrounding homes built between the 1920’s and 1950’s. And with so many pups walking along the trail with their families, your dog is bound to get a ton of interaction and playtime.
One of the best features of this location is its proximity to Silver Lake Dog Park, situated at the southern base of the reservoir. You can find nearby street parking (though it can be difficult on nights and weekends) and then start or end your walk with a jaunt in the dog park. The park has an expansive area for exercise and ball-chasing and sections for large and small dogs as well.
When you begin your walk from Silver Lake Dog Park, you’ll pass picnic tables and basketball courts, and views of Griffith Park are lovely from here. You can also stop for a drink at Silver Lake Meadow, a 3-acre field enjoyed by neighborhood walkers and families for everything from exercise to picnics.
To get there:
The easiest way to get to Silver Lake Reservoir is to follow directions to the Dog Park address (1850 Silver Lake Drive, Los Angeles), and kick off the fun from there.
Check back next week for #1!
