Cat Lady’s Guide to Celebrating Valentine’s Day

tabby kittens

Let’s be frank.  We “Cat Ladies” (not to be confused with cougars!) often celebrate Valentine’s Day with just our feline friends and boxed chocolates.  And ice cream.  Cookie dough ice cream.  And cookie dough itself.  By the spoonful.

But when you do find yourself with a DATE on Valentine’s day, here’s the 9 step guide to making sure the evening is purrfect:
1.    Not sure it even needs to be said, but brush all the cats!  Your date will surely appreciate their shiny, glossy coats.
2.    If you haven’t done it in, well, a few hours, break out the industrial…

Dress Up Your Pet Day

I realize that in other parts of Los Estados Unidos, people don’t dress their pets up like we do here in Los Angeles. Nonetheless, Saturday is “National Dress Your Pet Up Day” and to expand on that theme, we hope to provide a little something for everyone. The shopaholics, the Do It Yourselfers and the Utilitarians.
Let’s just be real here; some ladies love to shop for clothes. Combine that with the maternal type of love we feel for our pets and you can easily end up in the company of  dogs that dress better than you.

4 DIY Cat Toys

Earlier this week we posted a blog titled “The Indoor Cat Outdoor Cat Debate” written by our # 1 caretaker and adoption counselor at the Cat Adoption Center. It has lot’s of interesting information as well as tips on how to keep your indoor cat trim and happy. Being the artsy crafty type, I’m going to expand on the different types of toys, and share how you can save money by making your own cat toys.
I didn’t know very much about cats when I got my first kitten. What they like to do for “fun” is much different than…

6 Packs / 9 Lives

A little bird in our office (Marty, a feisty parakeet who works in accounting) told me that Found Animals has released a 2012 calendar this summer called 6 Packs / 9 Lives, on sale online now. If the title doesn’t give it away, this picture probably does.

And if this picture doesn’t, I WILL.  I’m here to spill the beans, and the kibble.  It is a calendar to celebrate… CATS! You know us dogs can’t get enough of those adorable little cats- I mean, are we always chasing after them? Or are we always chasing after them… LOL! And this…

3 Happy Dogust! I Baked You a Cake

white dog licking lips

Did you know that August 1st is the universally celebrated birthday for all shelter and rescue dogs with unknown dates of birth?
To celebrate “Dogust” I decided to bake a birthday/congratulations on your new home cake for my friend and his newly adopted dog, a Falcor look-alike named Curtis.
I’ve never baked a dog cake before but I have made dog biscuits. I found making a dog cake much easier. It takes 45 minutes to make it, bake it and frost it.
Here’s what you need for the cake:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ¼ cup organic creamy

The Cat Lady’s Guide to Landing a Man in Seven Easy Steps

1)    Do not ever, ever tell a guy how many cats you actually have.  Ever.  Never.  (If you’ve lost count, this step is easy!)
2)    Hide all of the pictures and paintings of cats, cat figurines, cat throw pillows, quilted vests featuring cat appliqués, knitted cat tea cozies made to look like cats, your “I <3 cats” doormat.  Replace the “meow” ringtone on your cell phone, and don’t forget to remove your “I brake for cats!” bumper sticker.  This step may take awhile, so allot plenty of time.
3)    Find out if your date is allergic to cats.  Wear a…

2 dogs in a car

As we approach summer time in the northern hemisphere, thoughts of vacationing start to pop into everyone’s minds. Those of us who own dogs are always trying to figure out ways of bringing our best friends along with us. What better way to do so than on a road trip? Road tripping with your dog can be a wonderful adventure and, if done correctly, your dog will enjoy the trip just as much, if not more than you!

First, figure out where you want to go. This is important because it will allow you to plan out your stops in…

Does Your Pet Make You LOL?

2 kittens in a car

If your pets are anything like our pets then the answer is certainly yes! The office pets at Found Animals get us giggling on practically a daily basis with their antics and expressions.  And sometimes we even manage to capture the moment in a picture. In honor of the prankster and fool in all of our pets – and the genius that is LOLCats – we are hosting an LOLPets Photo Contest in April. If your pet gets  the biggest guffaws, you will win a $200 shopping spree in the Found Animals Amazon Store.
Here is how it works
