A Dog Day Adoption Story

POSTED BY Jade L. IN

National Dog Day is August 26. It’s a day for us to recognize and appreciate the influence of dogs in our lives from heroic service dogs to housedogs, and I can’t help but be grateful for how perfect my dog Winston is for me. He is the epitome of what I think a dog should be. He loves attention from other people, but I know he loves me the best, which makes me feel so special knowing I’m the most important person in the world to him. It’s adorable how he’ll stand close to me, just barely touching me and…

Last Saturday night, several of us Found Animals staffers attended a celebrity studded “school play” benefit for Kitty Bungalow – A Charm School for Wayward Cats, at the beautiful Orpheum Theater.  Kitty Bungalow is an L.A. nonprofit run by Headmistress Simons. They specialize in Trap Neuter Release (TNR) of feral cats all over the city as well as feral kitten socialization, care and adoptions.

They put on a unique interpretation of the famed play CATS and it was a lot of fun! The CATS for Cats production was based on the letters of T.S. Eliot, specifically, the stories he wrote…

black dog gets scanned for microchip

You can’t see me right now, but I’m giving technology a standing ovation.
It deserves it.
Look around you. Your phones, your lap tops, your TVs, your MP3 players etc.  All of it making the impossible, possible. Most of it was just a dream 10 years ago…and today… well, you can’t imagine life without it.
Even our four legged friends get the benefits of new technology in the form of a teeny-tiny chip. A pet microchip.
Don’t know what a microchip is? Well then, read all about it in Elizabeth’s blog, Pet ID Month: Microchips.
A collar can fall off,…

Did you know that August 1st is the universally celebrated birthday for all shelter and rescue dogs with unknown dates of birth?
To celebrate “Dogust” I decided to bake a birthday/congratulations on your new home cake for my friend and his newly adopted dog, a Falcor look-alike named Curtis.
I’ve never baked a dog cake before but I have made dog biscuits. I found making a dog cake much easier. It takes 45 minutes to make it, bake it and frost it.
Here’s what you need for the cake:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ¼ cup organic creamy

Did you know that 1 out of every 3 pets will get lost at some point during their lifetime?  And without proper identification, 90% of lost pets never return home.  While we all like to believe this will never happen to us (“My pets would never leave the property!” “Our backyard is completely fenced in, how would Max get out?”), the unfortunate truth is that many beloved pets do wander off and natural disasters can occur without warning.  Proper pet identification drastically increases the chance that you will be reunited with your pet should he or she ever become lost.…

My name is Miah Rae. I am 13 years old and I started blogging when I was 12. I’ve always been interested in animals, ever since I was little. I used to love to catch frogs at a lake I lived near. I liked to pet dogs whenever I saw them, play with cats, hold snakes… you name it and I loved it! Animals were just something I love and I always will!!!
As I grew older I learned more about some of the problems animals are faced with. I learned that my grandmother tries to limit these issues or…

Did you know, because of the warm weather in California, the breeding season in cats is practically year-round? Cats stay in heat for normally 4-6 days, but as the days grow longer during the spring and summer season, they go in heat again every 2-3 weeks.
Is Your Cat in Heat?
There are a few ways to tell if your cat is in heat as her behavior may change a bit. Your cat may become extra affectionate towards people and other cats, rubbing against their legs, weaving in and out between their legs and, rolling on the floor. If she…

Now that it’s officially Summer, the heat isn’t the only thing you need to protect your pets from. Flea and tick season has begun and we have some tips for finding the right protection at the best price.
