2 Adopt-a-Less-Adoptable Pet Week: Adopt & Shop Promotion

Petfinder has designated the third week in September “Adopt-a-Less-Adoptable Pet Week” to raise awareness about animals in our shelters and rescues who need a little extra help finding the right home.
According to their survey, 99% of national shelters and rescue groups currently have adoptable pets that are having a difficult time getting adopted. These overlooked pets wait for a home nearly four times longer than the average adoptable pet does, sometimes remaining at (no-kill) shelters for longer than two years!
We have found this to be true at both our Adopt & Shop locations. There is a special kind…

It’s that time of year again! Dogust the 1st, celebrated every August 1st, is the universal birthday for all shelter and rescue dogs with unknown dates of birth. Last year, our volunteers surprised our adoptable dogs at Adopt & Shop with some special treats and they loved it so much, we did the same this year for our Lakewood and Culver City pups.
Thanks to Daisy with Lucky Dog Bakery for baking these adorable mini birthday cakes!

Happy Mutt’s Day!

white and grey mixed breed dog

National Mutt Day is one of our favorite pet holidays around here because it gives us an extra excuse to talk about the magnificent mixed breed dog! It is estimated that 25% of dogs that enter shelters annually are purebreds and the rest mixed, which equals millions of mutts that need us humans to step up and say, “I don’t know what you are exactly, but I love ya, so I don’t care.”
National Mutt Day was created in 2005 by Celebrity Pet Expert and Animal Welfare Advocate, Colleen Paige to “raise awareness of the plight of mixed breed dogs…

Sending your dog to daycare is a great way to ease separation anxiety and give yourself a well-deserved break. Instead of coming home to an amped-up dog,  in desperate need of a long walk, you can bring home a calm dog, all ready to cuddle…

We are excited to announce a special event at our new Culver City store! Award-winning author, Larry Kay, will be in the (dog) house signing copies of his new book Life’s a Bark on Saturday, July 12th, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
From the author: “We always hear about what we teach our dogs: how we train them, how we shape them into our ways of living. The funny thing is, we think we’re teaching dogs, but they’re really teaching us… about big things like life and love. That’s the idea behind Life’s a Bark.”

Larry will also be giving…

Barks N’ Arts

Last week, we hosted an event especially for our friends from partner organizations who work along side us. We wanted to plan a unique evening and, much like a newborn baby, show off the new flagship Adopt & Shop store in Culver City.
So many of our guests had a direct hand in the development and execution of the shop, literally making it all that it is today, and we had a great time catching up, giving tours of the space, drinking wine, eating, looking at art and spending money for a good cause.

The event was called “Barks N’…

Adopt & Shop Lakewood celebrated their 3rd birthday on April 12th and, as we prepare to open the largest and grandest Adopt & Shop to date, we want to express our gratitude to the staff, volunteers, adopters, community supporters and our partner animal shelters, SEACCA, Long Beach Animal Care Services, Los Angeles Animal Services, and the County of Los Angeles Animal Care and Control, for making our little pet shop so successful!

If you aren’t familiar with the concept of Adopt & Shop, it is a simple one.  Take the pet store model of yesteryear, but instead of selling puppies…
