California Pet Lover’s Plate

Big news for California animal lovers! The California Department of Motor Vehicles has approved an official “Spay and Neuter License Plate!” The plate will provide a large scale, permanent funding source for spay and neuter programs throughout the state. Proceeds from the plate will be distributed to cities and counties to support free and low-cost spay and neuter programs in their communities. The most successful specialty plates in California bring millions of dollars per year into their respective causes.

We are happy to share this great news during Spay and Neuter month! The Pet Lover’s plate faced an uncertain future when the project was first launched in 2011. Seventy-five hundred plates had to be pre-ordered before the DMV could begin to produce it. If the pre-order quota was not met, the plate would not be made.  It took about two years to reach that quota. Many organizations and individuals helped spread the word about the Pet Lover’s plate and we are so excited to see it finally moving into production as a result of everyone’s collaborative efforts.

Found Animals contributed to plate pre-orders through a contest, which awarded the top three animal welfare organizations and shelters prize money based on the number of pre-orders they generated. These organizations utilized every form of communication to help reach the quota before the deadline! Congratulations to the winners: Animal Friends Rescue Project, Seal Beach Animal Care Center and Angel City Pit Bulls, who received $7,500, $5,000 and $2,500 in prize monies, respectively, to put back into their organizations.

The unique and creative plate, which can be personalized, features original artwork created and donated by international actor, artist and animal lover Pierce Brosnan showing two of the animals adopted by Mr. Brosnan and his wife Keely: Shilo the dog and Angel Baby the cat.

The DMV began the plate implementation process on January 8, 2013 and we can expect to see these plates on the road towards the end of 2013.  Please visit for more details.

I received a customer receipt from the DMV stating my plate which I ordered a long time ago will be ready in 8-12 weeks. The plate is incorrectly written. I did not order a plate with KEOKIL on it. I ordered a plate with KEOKI on it. I do not wish to pay for a plate that I have waited for for so long done INCORRECTLY!! CA, get your act together. Someone please call me that might have a clue as to how to correct this error. Why should I use a plate that says garble? Lynn Glickman. Phone # is 650 326-4990.
